Treatment Care
Pre- and post-treatment care
A few simple steps before and after your session, to keep your skin comfortable and get the best results from your course.
Getting ready
Before your treatment
To achieve the best possible results and keep your skin comfortable, please follow these guidelines before your appointment.
Before your appointment
- Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and tanning for at least 2 weeks before your treatment.
- Do not use self-tanning products for at least 1 week before your appointment.
- Avoid waxing, threading, epilating or hair-removal creams for at least 4 weeks before treatment, the hair root needs to be present for the laser to work.
- Shave the treatment area 24–48 hours before your appointment. Avoid shaving right before if your skin is easily irritated.
- Arrive with clean skin, free from creams, oils, deodorant, perfume or other products on the treatment area.
- Avoid strong exfoliants, retinoids or other potentially irritating skincare products on the area for a few days before.
- Let us know about any new medications, skincare products or health changes, some medications increase sensitivity to light.
- If you have a fresh tan, sunburn, or irritated or damaged skin, let us know beforehand, your treatment may need to be postponed.
- Please follow any personalised advice given during your consultation.
After your treatment
Your skin may feel warm or slightly sensitive right after treatment. Mild redness or small raised bumps around the follicles are normal and usually settle quickly.
- Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching it unnecessarily for the first few hours.
- Avoid hot baths, showers, saunas, steam rooms and swimming for around 24–48 hours.
- Avoid intense exercise for 24–48 hours, especially if the area is likely to get hot or irritated.
- Avoid perfumes, deodorants and other fragranced products on the treated area for 24 hours.
- Avoid exfoliating the treated area for the first 2 weeks after treatment.
- From around 2 weeks on, gently exfoliate twice a week with a gentle scrub, this helps treated hairs shed naturally.
- Don't wax, thread or epilate between sessions, shaving is fine as needed.
- Protect the area from direct sun and sunbeds. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 whenever it's exposed to daylight.
- Don't pick, scratch or try to remove shedding hairs, they'll come away naturally on their own.
- Keep your skin well moisturised with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser.
- Follow the treatment schedule recommended at your consultation for the best results.
Worth knowing
Laser hair removal works progressively, so a course of treatments is normally required for the best long-term results. Results vary depending on hair colour, hair thickness, skin type, hormonal factors and the treatment area.
If you experience anything unusual or have concerns after your treatment, please get in touch for advice.
